our history

Listening and Assistance Center is a no profit association founded in 23 of January 2020 in Nakivale refugee settlement by human rights defenders in exile in Uganda and living in Nakivale refugee settlement by Mr. Justin BULOZE RUVUBIKA ( graduate in internal and public law with more than 10 years of experience in human rights and management of association, 10 years of experiences in physical protection and digital security ) who is the founder member jointly with Mr. NTAUNDI AMULI( confounder) a Technician in Rural Development and graduate in Banking Studies, with more than 30 years in humanitarian field and 5 years of experiences within UN agencies such as WFP DR.Congo in Katanga,Mr. Amuli is a member of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFESH), having also worked with several international NGOs such as Solidarity International, IRC, Danchurch Aid, IFESH USA, AVSI, CAR International, Food For Hungry International, honorary president of the civil society in the territory of Uvira, and regional president of SOS Droits de l’Homme en Catastrophe asbl. Mr. AMULI is also a writer, a researcher on the hidden causes of tribal conflicts in Eastern DR Congo – the case of Uvira, Fizi and Mwenga territories – and a historian.

What we do

To achieve this statement mission we conduct the Survivors of Torture Services (STS), program which is a compressive service to refugees and asylum seekers who have experienced torture in their or home countries and those who have experienced torture during their journey to asylum country.

We also provide a safe, welcoming, confidential, trauma-informed, and culturally-appropriate setting where survivors can begin the healing process.

Our service includes, but no limited to:

Organizing sessions and meetings

Organizing sessions and meetings between torture survivors (peer to peer support) for moral rearmament with a lasting impact.

Mental and Psychiatric

Direct mental and psychiatric services, social service and medical care coordination

Legal Service Referrals

Through this STS program, LAC provides holistic, integrated individualized care for this high traumatized population.

Training in C.I.T

Communication, internet technology
to orphans children and youth with disabilities and marginalized people

Entrepreneurship

Training in entrepreneurship to youth people with disabilities, survivors of torture, and teenagers mothers;

Sensitization

Sensitization of community leaders on prevention of torture practices and fighting against early marriage
